Privacy Policy

Effective October 20, 2026 · Last updated November 4, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Drift team (“Drift,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use the Drift mobile app and joindrift.io. Drift is a shared world for you and your partner. For privacy questions, contact support@joindrift.io.

Delete your Drift account or data

In the app, open your Profile and choose Delete account, then confirm. Deletion is permanent and ends your pairing. Uninstalling the app does not delete your account.

You can also request deletion without installing or opening the app. Email support@joindrift.io from the email address associated with your Drift account with the subject “Delete my Drift account.” If you use Apple’s private relay, include that relay address so we can locate your account. Never send your password.

To delete only specific data, including waitlist information, past pairing history, or analytics, describe what you want removed. We may verify account ownership before acting. See “Retention and security” below for the data removed and any retention exceptions.

Email an account deletion request

1. Information we collect

Account and profile information. When you create a Drift account, we collect your name, email address, account identifier, sign-in provider, and profile choices. Firebase Authentication processes your sign-in credentials. If you choose Apple or Google sign-in, we receive the account information that provider makes available, such as your name, email address (including an Apple private relay address), and provider identifier.

Shared experiences and content. We store the information you enter and create in Drift, including partner pairings and invitation codes, your Mini and its customization, moods, status messages, drawings, stickers, and any images you choose to upload as custom stickers where that feature is available. We also store interactions, activity timestamps, presence in the shared world, daily check-ins, streaks, and scene or interaction history used for replay and timelapse features. These replays describe activity inside Drift; they are not recordings from your camera or microphone.

Notifications and device information. We collect app installation identifiers, push notification tokens, device platform, notification preferences, and delivery-related timestamps to send notifications and manage your preferences. Our infrastructure providers also process technical information, such as IP addresses, request logs, and device or browser information, to deliver and secure the service.

App analytics and diagnostics. In app builds with PostHog enabled, we collect usage events (such as sign-in, saving a drawing, or starting an interaction), device and app information, and error and crash diagnostics. These records can be associated with your Firebase user ID, email address, and display name. Diagnostic information may also be stored locally on your device and included if you choose to share a diagnostic export with us.

Website and support information. If you join the website waitlist, we collect your email address and signup time. Vercel Web Analytics collects website usage information such as visited pages, referring websites, and general device and country information without analytics cookies. If you contact us, we receive your contact details, message, and any attachments you send. Waitlist emails may also appear in server logs when a signup cannot be stored.

We do not request access to your precise device location, contacts, microphone, or camera. File selection, where available, gives us the file you choose, rather than access to your entire photo library. Drift does not currently collect payment card information or use advertising SDKs.

2. How we use information

We use this information to create and authenticate accounts; connect you with your chosen partner; synchronize and display your shared world, content, moods, and interactions; provide history, replays, and streaks; deliver notifications; maintain preferences; and respond to support and privacy requests. We use technical and analytics information to understand feature usage, troubleshoot errors, improve reliability, and prevent abuse. We use waitlist information to notify you when Drift is available.

We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use your shared content for targeted advertising.

3. Who can receive information

Your partner. Pairing enables your partner to access your shared world and associated profile information, including your name, Mini, moods, status, presence, drawings, and interaction history. Your paired partner can also access the email address stored in your profile. Only pair with someone you trust. Unpairing ends ongoing partner access, but cannot remove screenshots or other copies someone has already saved.

Custom stickers. Uploaded custom stickers are available to signed-in Drift users, not just your partner. Do not upload an image you want to keep private to the custom sticker library.

Service providers. Google Firebase provides authentication, database storage, backend processing, and push messaging. Apple and Google process sign-in information when you use their sign-in options, and Apple also delivers push notifications on Apple devices. PostHog processes app analytics and diagnostics in builds where it is enabled. Vercel hosts the website and provides website analytics and operational logs. Google Sheets and Apps Script store and process website waitlist submissions. Email providers process messages you send us and messages we send you.

We require service providers processing personal information on our behalf to use it only to provide their services to us, protect it with the same or an equivalent level of protection described in this policy, and comply with applicable privacy requirements. Their processing is subject to applicable service agreements and data protection terms.

We may disclose information when necessary to comply with law or a valid legal request, protect people and the service, or investigate fraud or abuse. If Drift is involved in a merger, acquisition, or transfer of its business, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to applicable privacy protections and any legally required notice or consent. We may also share information at your direction, such as when you export content using your device’s sharing tools.

4. Retention and security

We keep account and shared-experience information while needed to provide your account and its features, and until it is deleted or no longer needed for those purposes. Unpairing or uninstalling the app does not itself delete your account or stored history. Waitlist information is retained for the launch notification unless you request removal earlier. Support correspondence, technical logs, and analytics are retained only as needed for support, reliability, security, and the purposes described above, subject to applicable legal obligations.

Account deletion removes your authentication account, user profile and associated settings and device tokens, your uploaded custom stickers and pairing codes, and the current shared relationship and its history. It ends your pairing without deleting your partner’s separate account. Historical records from earlier pairings and analytics records may require separate cleanup; contact us to request deletion of those records or all remaining data associated with you.

Limited information may be retained where necessary to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, or prevent fraud and abuse. Backup copies and provider logs may persist until their applicable retention cycles expire. Any retained personal information remains subject to this policy. If an exception applies to a deletion request, we will explain the reason and applicable retention period when responding.

We use encrypted connections for data in transit, authentication, and access controls to protect information. Access to account and shared-relationship data is restricted through backend authorization rules. No storage or transmission system is completely secure, and shared content is not represented as end-to-end encrypted.

5. Your choices and privacy rights

You can edit available profile settings, unpair from your partner, and change notification preferences in Drift. You can also disable notifications through your device settings and decline optional file selection. These choices may limit the related feature. You can stop waitlist emails or request removal by emailing us.

Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent by contacting us or using the relevant device controls. Withdrawal does not affect processing that already occurred lawfully. Contact us about analytics choices or to object to processing; the app does not currently provide an analytics opt-out switch.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, restrict or object to processing, and complain to your local data protection authority. Send requests to support@joindrift.io. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity, and will respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights.

6. International processing

Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries, which may have different data protection laws from your country. Where required, we use legally recognized safeguards for international transfers, such as applicable contractual protections.

Where applicable data protection law requires a legal basis, we process information to provide the service you request, for legitimate interests such as security and service reliability, to comply with legal obligations, or with your consent where required. You can contact us for information about the basis and safeguards applicable to your data.

7. Children’s privacy

Drift is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact support@joindrift.io so we can investigate and delete it as appropriate. Higher age or parental-consent requirements may apply under local law.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our features or data practices change. We will post the updated policy here and change the date above. For material changes, we will provide additional notice and obtain consent where required by applicable law.

9. Contact Drift

For privacy questions, consent withdrawal, or account and data requests, contact the Drift team at support@joindrift.io.
